The Story Of Vegetable Oil

Posted in Uncategorized by wink on December 26, 2005

First of all, Vege oil is a type of Fat. But hey, if you happen to be on a diet I reccomand vege oils and their products like margarine which your body can digest better rather than animal oil and their products like lard, cream, cheese or butter. Plus they are healthier for you.
-Fats/triglycerides are polymers(large compounds made of smaller, similar molecules) of molecules of glycerine and fatty acids.

Vege oils are extracted from parts of plants- seeds, leaves, flowers. Most common are seeds, like sesame, sunflower, cotton, coconut. You can do a little extraction of oil yourself by heating/toasting fresh samples of some of the above seeds in a dry pan on low flame.
Vege oils have many uses – cooking oil
– fuel for vehicles, seriously
– other food stuff like margarine, salad oil
– soap, cosmestics etc.

Vege oil are becoming more popular in industries because they are quite harmless on environment(compared to crude oils) and are biodegradable. They can be used as electrical insulators and fuel for diesel engines.
-Actually, Rudolf Diesel, the inventor of the diesel engine(and nearlly got himself killed making it) actually used peanut oil as fuel.
